Best beaches in Torrox Costa: promenade, family days and quieter stretches
Torrox has around nine kilometres of coastline and its official tourism site identifies beaches including Ferrara, El Morche, El Peñoncillo, El Cenicero, Calaceite, Mazagarrobo, Playa Chica and Dunas de Carraca. That gives visitors a clearer choice than the old idea of one generic "Torrox Costa beach".

For most first-time visitors, Ferrara is the easiest urban base; El Morche works well for a separate beach-town feel; El Peñoncillo and the smaller eastern sections make more sense when you already stay there or have road transport.
Quick answer
Choose Ferrara for promenade, facilities and the simplest all-round Torrox Costa day. Choose El Morche for a distinct coastal neighbourhood with its own services. Choose El Peñoncillo if you are staying toward Nerja and want a beach close to that eastern side. Choose smaller Calaceite/Mazagarrobo sections only after checking exact access and services.
Ferrara
Ferrara is the strongest first-time option because it sits in the core Torrox Costa area.
Current municipal tourism places a tourist-information point on the Ferrara promenade, and current municipal beach-use documents show active recreational/water facilities on Ferrara.
Its real strength is the combination of beach, promenade and normal Torrox Costa services.
El Morche
El Morche is a separate coastal centre rather than merely an extension of central Ferrara.
The municipality maintains a tourist-information point on its promenade, and current beach-use documents list recreational/sports activity there.
Choose El Morche when your accommodation is west of Torrox Costa or you prefer a more neighbourhood-like beach base.
El Peñoncillo
El Peñoncillo sits toward the Nerja side.
Current municipal documents list beach recreation/water-use areas there, confirming it as an active beach rather than an isolated strip.
It makes most sense when you already stay nearby; driving from El Morche or central Ferrara just to "collect" another beach usually adds little.
El Cenicero
El Cenicero is another named official beach section and appears in municipal seasonal beach-use planning.
It can provide a different option around the western/central coastline, but exact services can vary by season.
Check what is operating on the date you visit.
Calaceite and Mazagarrobo
These smaller eastern sections suit travellers staying along that road corridor or looking for something outside the main promenade zones.
The trade-off is fewer obvious everyday services and more dependence on the exact access/parking.
Do not choose them only from an aerial photo without checking the final route.
Dunas de Carraca and Playa Chica
Official Torrox tourism also names Dunas de Carraca and Playa Chica among its coastal offer.
Treat these as specific local alternatives rather than assuming they provide the same facilities as Ferrara.
For a simple first beach day, the central serviced beaches remain easier.
Families
Ferrara and El Morche are the logical defaults because town services, food and promenade are easier to combine.
A smaller section can work if the accommodation is next to it, but verify toilets, food and safe access first.
Without a car
Torrox lies outside the C1 rail corridor.
Local/regional bus therefore matters more, and the location of your accommodation can determine whether a car is useful.
Once you are in Ferrara or El Morche, daily beach life can be very walkable.

Long walks
Ferrara's promenade is one of the easiest places for repeated morning/evening walks.
El Morche also has a clear urban seafront.
Do not assume every smaller beach is connected by uninterrupted promenade.
Day trips
Torrox is well positioned for separate visits to Nerja and Frigiliana.
That does not mean you need to combine them into the same beach day.

Activities
Current municipal beach planning includes seasonal recreational/water activities at Ferrara, El Morche and El Peñoncillo.
Availability is not evergreen. Use current municipal/operator information rather than promising a specific activity every day.
Parking
Central beach zones can become busier in season.
If your accommodation is walkable to Ferrara or El Morche, leaving the car parked may be easier than driving between beach sections.
Sea conditions
Never turn a beach's typical description into a daily safety promise.
Follow flags and current lifeguard information.
Practical decision rule
First Torrox beach day: Ferrara. Staying west: El Morche. Staying east toward Nerja: El Peñoncillo. Smaller beaches only when their location or setting genuinely improves your day.
