Manilva's coastline is one of the clearest places on the western Costa del Sol to choose between easy urban beach life and a more natural, spread-out coast. The municipality describes more than eight kilometres of shoreline and officially distinguishes beaches including Sabinillas, La Duquesa, El Castillo, Punta Chullera and Los Toros.

Sabinillas and Las Gaviotas received Blue Flag recognition in 2026, while Puerto de la Duquesa also retained the distinction.

Quick answer

Choose Sabinillas for the easiest everyday beach day with promenade, shops, restaurants and services. Choose La Duquesa / Las Gaviotas when marina atmosphere is part of the plan. Choose El Castillo for a beach day linked to the historic Duquesa/Castillo area. Choose Punta Chullera or Los Toros when natural scenery and quiet matter more than urban services—and only after checking the exact access.

Sabinillas

Sabinillas is the strongest all-round beach for most first-time visitors.

The municipality describes it as the most visited urban beach and lists showers, changing facilities, lifeguard/security coverage, restaurants and chiringuitos.

Its main advantage is practical town life behind the sand.

Choose it for families, longer stays and car-free daily routines.

La Duquesa / Las Gaviotas

The Duquesa side works best when beach time is combined with the marina.

The municipal beach page describes La Duquesa as a lively serviced area with showers, bars, restaurants and chiringuitos, while Las Gaviotas received Blue Flag recognition in 2026.

This is a good choice for couples or groups who want beach, lunch, harbour and evening atmosphere in one zone.

El Castillo

El Castillo combines beach with the historic Castillo de la Duquesa area.

The municipality describes a mix of sandy and rocky sections plus nearby chiringuitos.

It can be more interesting than a pure beach-only day when you want a little heritage in the itinerary.

Punta Chullera

Punta Chullera is the scenic/natural contrast.

Official Manilva tourism describes small coves, rocks, low cliffs and high ecological/landscape interest.

This is not the right default for visitors who need lots of urban facilities, an easy pushchair route or a completely sandy seabed.

Check access and sea conditions carefully.

Los Toros

The municipality describes Los Toros as one of the westernmost, more natural and quiet beaches.

Its official information also warns that the shore can deepen quickly after entry.

That makes it a poor place to label generically as "best for small children". Choose it for scenery and quiet only when the group is comfortable with the bathing conditions.

Accessibility and services

Sabinillas and the Duquesa urban side are the strongest options when services matter.

For specific adapted facilities or assisted bathing, verify the current municipal beach plan before travelling. Do not assume all of Manilva's natural beaches carry the same infrastructure.

Families

Sabinillas is the safest default from a logistics perspective: food, shops, promenade and services are concentrated.

La Duquesa can also work well when your accommodation is near the port.

For natural western beaches, choose only after checking access and water entry.

Without a car

Sabinillas and Puerto de la Duquesa are the most practical places to base a car-free beach stay.

The farther west or more dispersed you go, the more important bus/taxi and the return journey become.

The municipal site publishes transport information but explicitly warns that timetables can change. Check the current operator rather than copying an old schedule.

Long stays

Sabinillas is particularly strong because it supports ordinary life: supermarkets, food, promenade and beach can all be part of the same routine.

For a longer holiday, that daily convenience may be more valuable than staying beside a prettier but isolated cove.

Couples

Duquesa is strongest for marina atmosphere and an easy evening.

Punta Chullera can suit couples looking for a quieter natural day, but it requires better access planning.

Dogs and beach rules

Do not assume pet access, fishing, fires or other activities are allowed everywhere.

Manilva publishes beach ordinances; check current rules before planning anything beyond ordinary bathing.

Sea conditions

Blue Flag or clean-water reputation does not mean the sea is always calm.

Follow flags and lifeguard instructions, and take the municipality's warning about deeper entry at Los Toros seriously.

Practical decision rule

Easy town beach: Sabinillas. Marina day: Duquesa/Las Gaviotas. Beach plus history: El Castillo. Natural scenery: Punta Chullera/Los Toros, with more careful access and bathing checks.
